MEET zigi

On the road to recovery

BACKGROUND

Zigi is one of four horses removed from an abusive owner in April of 2010.  Much about his history is unknown and still being researched.  He is likely registered and may be chipped.  For more information about his owner’s history, see our Blog.

THE ROAD TO RECOVERY

Zigi arrived at the shelter underweight and in need of dental care.  He was somewhat depressed and wary of his caretakers.  He was unusually quiet and calm for a stallion, but bore the mark of several fights, as he had been running loose with three other stallions and seven intact male dogs.

LOOKING AHEAD

Zigi has an excellent attitude and ground manners.  He’s very calm yet attentive, and loves to play.  He has some funny habits, like dunking his hay in his water bucket - he’ll grab a mouthful of hay and carry it to his bucket where he dunks it in the water and then waits for it to soak while he munches on hay bits that fall to the ground.

He also likes to play with “jolly balls.”  One morning we looked out to see him leaping straight up in the air to catch the ball he had tossed there by picking it up with his teeth.

He is already on the road to becoming a fabulous hunter/jumper or dressage prospect.  He has likely been shown, and has been on at least one fox hunt.

We anticipate three to six months for Zigi’s rehabilitation, and will update this site continuously as he progresses.

Zigi will ultimately be available for adoption at a fee appropriate to his breeding and capability.  If you would like to participate in his care or sponsor his progress, please make a generous donation on his behalf.
